NEW INTERVIEW

I have a new interview up at Comic Book Resources.  In it I mention that Mini Marvels has come to an end.

I’ve heard from a lot of folks already that are angry with Marvel on my behalf because they want to see Mini Marvels continue.  While I appreciate the sentiment, I would like to urge folks that want to support me to please order and pick up the first G-MAN digest on May 20th.  Marvel isn’t changing their mind about Mini Marvels, but I’m going to continue writing and drawing comics in the exact same tone and style with all-new non-Marvel characters in G-MAN.  If you enjoyed Mini Marvels, you will surely enjoy G-Man just as much.

gman_minimarvels

In spite of the fact that I will be writing and drawing the exact same way I did with Mini Marvels, there is a tendency for folks to resist taking a chance on something that lacks their favorite classic Marvel heroes.  For this reason, it is more important than ever to pre-order G-MAN, because shops are even less likely to order this one without you asking them to.  Mini Marvels was an underdog at a big company.  G-MAN is an underdog at an underdog company.

So PLEASE pre-order G-MAN volume 1: LEARNING TO FLY!  To make pre-ordering easy for you and for your comic shop, click here to download the new order form, fill it out, and give it to your comic shop!

    Oh my f’n god!!!!

I can’t beleive my eyes.I had to read the article twice.I do love G-Man.I really do.But just think Marvel is making a mistake. They just need to market the Mini Marvels more. But fear not sir for I will push G-Man as hard or harder than ever. You are a awesome artist and creator. Can’t wait for Marvel to come begging you to come back.

While I am sad to see you leave Marvel I hope you have a great run with G-Man.Can’t believe they are letting you go.Extremely dumb move on Marvel’s behalf.

  • By Chris Giarrusso, April 5, 2009 @ 11:12 pm

Thanks Mitch. But Marvel’s doing what they think is best, and I have to respect that. I don’t think I have any choice other than to look at this from a positive perspective. I was fortunate to have had the opportunities that Marvel gave me, and now that it’s over, I have to try to make the most of it and move forward with the new opportunities I have now. Thanks for staying on board with G-Man!

So I guess Nathan Cosby has no pull in the matter now eh? That’s too bad, does that mean the hawkeye story in assisant book and the new fantastic four story won’t be collected? Everything started looking good there for a bit, this is quite a different outcome i never saw coming.

Is the Learning to Fly book similar to the one shot that came out in trade format a while ago with all the recent strips? I hope it contains the story from the image christmas special.

  • By Rad Dude, April 6, 2009 @ 8:36 am

Pyche – it shows what’s in the digest when you point at that flying comic. It says the Christmas story is in there, cant wait!

  • By Chris Giarrusso, April 6, 2009 @ 9:50 am

Pyche – Nathan Cosby did his best. He was the guy who called me out of the blue a few years ago to bring Mini Marvels back after a three year hiatus. He thought we could prove to Marvel that people would be willing to buy Mini Marvels. There’s always been some resistance to Mini Marvels internally, but we managed to put out the two digests, and they performed better than anybody expected. I feel like we did exactly what we set out to do, but the “success” just wasn’t strong enough to outdo the multi-marketing power of Super Hero Squad.

The New Fantastic Four strip was off-limits for reprinting. Otherwise we would have put it in the Secret Invasion Digest. That Hawkeye story and some Bullpen Bits strips are about all the material that hasn’t been reprinted. It’s just not enough to fill another digest. Perhaps we’ll get another shot after another three-year hiatus!

The LEARNING TO FLY book will collect the material from the one-shot as well as all of the strips that have accumulated since, including the Christmas story. Like Rad Dude said, you can check it out by mousing over the new addition to the home-page up above, the floating G-Man digest cover!

This is sad news, but as you said, Mini Marvels was on hiatus for three years and came back so I’m hopeful Marvel will wake up in a few years and bring it back again!

  • By Mitch Dyer, April 9, 2009 @ 9:00 am

Well the only reason I ever bought any Super Hero Squad toys was because of my love for Mini Marvels. That Super Hero Squad comic book blows.Hell even the toys are getting stupid.I’ve bought the same Spidey toy about a zillion times to get one new fig that I didn’t have.Ugggh!

    Hey Chris,
I just found out about G-Man and will definitely be putting an order in at my shop. I hope it’s not too late! Do you think you’ll be offering any “artist” editions or selling them on your site if I missed the deadline at the comic shop?
    I’d rather support YOU, anyway!
    Thanks!

  • By Chris Giarrusso, April 10, 2009 @ 1:31 pm

    Jamie-
No plans for an “artist edition,” but there’s still time to get your order in. The order cut-off is April 22. If you miss the order cut-off, that only means you won’t be guaranteed to receive it on release date. Your store will still be able to re-order afterward as long as the book is in stock. Thanks for your support!

You’ve always been cool at cons, so I’ll definitely be picking this up for you and trying to spread the word.

  • By Chris Giarrusso, April 14, 2009 @ 9:32 am

Thanks Eli! And thanks to everyone who is planning the same!
