I thought “Hawkeye and the Curse of the Crimson Crown” was my last gasp at Marvel for the foreseeable future. But apparently, there’s a poll to vote on your favorite story from the MARVEL ASSISTANT SIZE SPECTACULAR. Whichever story gets the most votes will be continued. So… if “Hawkeye and the Curse of the Crimson Crown” wins… there may be more Mini Marvels yet!
But let’s not lose sight of the fact that there’s more G-Man on the way, which is exactly like Mini Marvels with all-new characters. Remember how Elephant Steve is a new character? And everyone loves Elephant Steve after appearing twice? G-Man is like a book full of that, except appearing MORE than twice. If it’s the Marvel characters you need, there’s always Super Hero Squad, but if you like my particular way of writing and drawing, if you like what it is that I bring to the table, please pick up the G-MAN: LEARNING TO FLY digest (download an order form!) coming May 20th and get ready for the all new 5-issue miniseries, G-MAN: CAPE CRISIS beginning in August!
Marvel Comics currently has four new comics available exclusively available at Taco Bell. The titles are THE AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA, FANTASTIC FOUR, and THOR. Each of those comics has a brand new one-page Mini Marvels comic strip. Check ‘em out!
And please order G-MAN:LEARNING TO FLY!
This Wednesday, April 1st, will see the release of the MARVEL ASSISTANT SIZE SPECTACULAR #1. It will contain three stories, one of which is a 9-page story written and illustrated by me, titled “Hawkeye and the Curse of the Crimson Crown.”
Here is a very misleading cover image portraying Mini Marvel Hawkeye vandalizing a Spider-Man poster with a can of spray paint, a clear indication that my editor has been paying absolutely no attention to the stories I’ve been writing.

Hawkeye is not a vandal, and he does not consider Spider-Man to be lame. “Hawkeye and the Curse of the Crimson Crown” contains no spray-paint and no examples of Hawkeye disrespecting his friend Spider-Man. Instead, the story features Hawkeye being awesome.
Here’s a look at the jam piece that TINY TITANS cartoonist Art Baltazar and I drew, now in color!

This is our cover tribute to the classic THE UNCANNY X-MEN AND THE NEW TEEN TITANS crossover from Marvel and DC comics, originally drawn by Walt Simonson. The original artwork (black and white india ink on bristol board paper) for this piece will be auctioned off later this year by the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
Last Saturday I went to Greensboro, North Carolina for a store signing at Acme Comics. I still can’t get over how awesome it was. Jermaine and Stephen at Acme organized an amazing event hosting writer Jim McCann, editor Jen Grunwald and me. The store was packed with customers and I was sketching all day. They also had me draw this piece for the event featuring the Dark Reign Illuminators!

Everyone at Acme was great, all the customers were super awesome, and I’ll return any time they want to have me back!
So far I’ve had a lot of reports from stores telling me they sold out of their initial orders of MINI MARVELS: SECRET INVASION. And that’s a good thing. However, a lot of stores have had trouble getting their re-orders shipped. This is because Diamond, the comics distributor, has been in the process of moving their warehouse. This means that a LOT of comic books and merchandise are in the process of moving from one location to another. During that time, much of that merchandise (including MINI MARVELS: SECRET INVASION) has been unavailable to ship to the stores that have ordered them.
In time, MINI MARVELS: SECRET INVASION will be back on the shelf at your comic book store (but it still wouldn’t hurt to remind them you’re interested in buying it!).
MINI MARVELS: SECRET INVASION was supposed to go on sale this Wednesday, February 4th. In most of the country, it did, but in the New York City area, it did not. There was a problem with one of the distributor’s distribution centers which affected the shipment of books to NYC (not sure where else). Being located in NYC means I also did not receive the copies I personally bought.
However, I should actually receive my books in time for New York Comic Con. I should have them on hand Friday, but if not, I will definitely have them for Saturday and Sunday. I’ll also have copies of volume 1 on hand, as well as the sold-out G-MAN one-shot, so come on by and pick up a copy or two!
