The Shadow Hero

Here’s a sketch I drew of the Green Turtle from THE SHADOW HERO, an awesome new graphic novel written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Sonny Liew!

Green Turtle sketch by Chris Giarrusso

The Green Turtle, the protagonist of The Shadow Hero, was the first Asian-American superhero. But since he was written in the 1930s, his race was something that he—and his creator—had to conceal from the world.

In today’s world, that’s no longer an issue—and Gene Luen Yang and Sonny Liew have reinvented the Green Turtle with an origin story that celebrates his background instead of hiding it.
